Diamante Releases New Single, "Bite Of The Beast"

Diamante is an artist that I’ve been recently watching after seeing her perform for the first time last year, as she had opened for Palaye Royale. If someone offers you a free ticket to a concert, it is very important that you say yes and go because you might fall in love with the opener. From the get-go, vocalist Diamante owned the stage. She came out in a blaze and knew just how to work the crowd as she sang. Her voice is both powerful and delicate, blending so well with the instruments. My friend, Laura, who had offered me her second ticket, told me she is heavily inspired by the ‘80s, and that totally fits her whole aesthetic. She was raw and authentic in every single moment of her set. I immediately fell in love with her vibe and still stream her single, “All For The Glory,” on a regular basis. That song alone gives off her whole sound, and I’m sure her others do too, but that’s the one I stream the most frequently.

Just recently she released a new single titled, “Bite Of The Beast,” and yes, I do love it from the first listen. This song has a darker note to the lyricism and overall message, yet it remains catchy, easily making me obsessed over every word. Diamante has noted that this song was inspired by the dark romance novels she’s been reading in the way that it’s intoxicating and a fairytale world, but once it’s over, nothing ever feels the same. You’re falling under a spell that you shouldn’t because it’s dangerous, infatuation with this idyllic heartbreak.

It is definitely a rock anthem. I especially love the title and how it ties in with her inspiration. Hearing the words ‘bite of the beast’ makes me think about those mythological creatures like a vampire or werewolf, the monsters that, once they bite you, you become one of them, or a fledgling, so to speak. Similarly, vampires thrive on drinking people’s blood, particularly from one’s neck, in order to survive. I have read a few dark romances before, and I can concur that they do have this hold over you that makes you want to keep reading them, but they’re just a fantasy world; it cannot actually happen. It’s not just dark romance novels I want to note; I read mostly fiction, and the feeling of being able to escape into this other world just through reading words on a page is fun. Life is not all sunshine and rainbows, so sometimes being able to step into this more picture-perfect world or even a dark, toxic romantic relationship has its thrilling, exciting moments.

“‘Bite of the Beast’ was inspired by the dark romance novels I’ve been reading and the song is set in a twisted fairytale world. It’s about a kind of all-consuming infatuation that changes you forever, the kind where, once it’s over, nothing else can ever compare. I wanted the song to feel visceral and dangerous, like falling under a spell you know will ruin you. It’s the kind of heartbreak that you don’t want cured.”

Diamante’s vocals and how she enunciates each word and belts out every word so carefully are also what make this song so beautiful. The backing instruments that intertwine with her perfectly. The art in making music, writing good songs, and finding ways to make everything transition into one song seamlessly. This song is a great example of that.  I also have to take a note to applaud the gentle twinkling opening sound effect; it really emphasizes the whole effect wonderfully before it launches into the song. No notes, this song eats, and you should totally give it a listen. Diamante is currently on tour in support of I See Stars alongside Mothica and Until I Wake. Grab a ticket, or you can also catch her at Louder Than Life this fall. She will not disappoint.
