Nicole Alexis brings deep, loud feelings with latest EP, Mirrors and Smoke
Alt-acoustic artist Nicole Alexis (stylized N/A) has made her grand debut to the music world with her EP titled Mirrors and Smoke. She is based in Nashville, Tennessee, making a name for herself as an alternative singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer in the modern DIY rock scene. She’s starting from the ground up and controlling her own destiny every step of the way. From the start of working behind the scenes to becoming an artist herself, she clearly knows her way around every which way, and I think we can expect amazing things from her.

She’s covered all the artists from Kelly Clarkson to My Chemical Romance to Dashboard Confessional. I’m sure you’ve maybe heard her singing without actually realizing it. That’s the beauty of creating covers because the right people will hear it and then follow you. She brings this raw energy into her lyrics, channeling her feelings, making us feel deeply and loudly. This EP is the transition from recreating covers into her sound by truly writing her own path. She has mentioned that it’s a lens into her stories, stripped down and honest.
I really love her voice; there’s a softness yet a powerful subtleness she brings that pairs with the guitar. This EP might contain four tracks, but they are nothing short of beautiful. I really enjoy the track, “Don’t Tell Me To Breathe,” and the emotions that it resonates with. I think the depth behind her words is strong because sometimes we have to ride the waves and let them take us until we can get back up. It’s like when you get caught in a current, fighting it doesn’t do you any good. Too many times I’ve been told to stuff down feelings and let it go, but the thing is, that’s not going to help. Sometimes we need to feel and let those moments be a time to reflect on life.
Nicole Alexis might be a one-woman operation, but she is proving that you can do it if you truly believe in it; sometimes, all you need is a vision, grit, and your truth. Tell your story, Nicole, because I’m here to listen, and I cannot wait to see where you go from here.
