Skillet Sparks a Revolution in Chattanooga

On March 15th, Christian rock band, Skillet, brought serious energy to The Signal in Chattanooga, TN. Getting their start 30 years ago, the band has proved that passion and purpose can carry you far. I remember seeing Skillet in the early 2000’s and I can tell you, their sound and relevance have held up.

The Protest, the opening act, stepped into a full room and handled it well, delivering a set that immediately connected. There wasn’t much of a “warm-up” period as the crowd was engaged early, and their mix of heavy guitars and melodic hooks helped set a strong tone for the night. By the end of their set, the momentum was fully in place and the venue was packed wall-to-wall.

When Skillet took the stage, the intensity quickly elevated to a whole new level. Kicking their set off with "Surviving the Game,”  the crowd responded instantly. John Cooper commanded the stage with confidence, while Jen Ledger’s performance on drums added a powerful, driving element that carried throughout the set. Guitarists Korey Cooper and Seth Morrison rounded out the sound, with Korey seamlessly shifting between keys and rhythm guitar.

The band moved through a mix of well-known tracks and fan favorites, keeping the setlist balanced and engaging. John shared part of his testimony mid set, praising Jesus for being his rock and carrying him through some dark times in his youth. The crowd responded in a way that brought tears to my eyes, and I’m sure everyone in the room felt something powerful happening throughout the night- a revolution, a light in the dark growing brighter despite all the chaos going on in the world.

“Comatose” stood out as one of the biggest moments of the night, with the entire crowd locked in, showing who the true OG fans from the early years were as they sang every lyric at the top of their lungs.

Production played a key role in the overall experience as well, creating a larger-than-expected feel for a venue of that size while still maintaining an intimate atmosphere. With a sold-out crowd and a strong connection between the band and audience, both Skillet and The Protest delivered sets that left a lasting impression on Chattanooga.
