Saturday night fun presented by MKEmo
The local music scene is alive and well! Just this past weekend, MKEmo, aka Chris Leuke, hosted a beer release concert. His podcast, Manufacturing Happy Hour, collaborated with local brewery, Amorphic Beer, and created the Stay Innovated, Stay Thirsty, which is a hazy IPA. I’m not much of a beer drinker, so it wasn’t very pleasant tasting to me; my husband enjoyed it. To celebrate this big day, he booked Chicago local rockers, Action/Adventure, to headline a killer show with local Wisconsinite/Milwaukean bands Barely Civil, Endswell, and Buena Cara to open up. The event started at 3 pm, and people slowly filtered in to try the beer and prep for a night of music. I was super excited because I had seen every band on the bill at least once, and I knew this show was going to be an absolute banger! I had my little camp snap camera for photos, but it unfortunately wasn’t charged enough, so I sadly only have a couple of photos from that night.
All Photos By Carrie BerganIt was such a joy to see the room turn up for this event and to support the local music scene. All three bands from the area have a different presence on stage, but equally amazing to watch. Buena Cara with their more gentle but loud sound that beats hard. Barely Civil with Connor’s scream-y and soft vocals with Alex’s guitar riffs, Aux’s yells into his bass, and Isaac beating away on the drums. Endswell with the high energy and two-stepping mosh pits. I love the community that comes with concerts and bands, no matter how big or small they may be. Action/Adventure is definitely a band that is growing, and I cannot wait to watch their journey. Just last year, they played at Riot Fest, which is such a big deal. No matter how big a stage or crowd they’re in front of, they give their 100% into the performance, and it really shows. It had been a long day, so I was on the sidelines more at the start of Action/Adventure’s set until my favorite song, “Real Juicer Hours,” was being played, and I could not resist jumping into the crowd with my concert buddy, Emily to scream along with the band. The song is so catchy and fun, but also relatable. I love the lyrics, “I heard you had another breakdown! It fucking happens every day! I’m running out of things to say now, you’re right, who cares?! I guess I’ll sit around and wait.” I scream along to that line regularly when I play it.
Listen, just go check out the song, the band, every band that I listed. It’ll be worth your time if you like pop-punk-y rock midwest emo songs with screams. Trust me, they’re all very good. Overall, it was a great evening of music for a Saturday night in Milwaukee.
