Riley Green Makes Athens, GA Stop a Damn Good Country Night

Country music came alive in Athens, GA, as Riley Green brought his Damn Country Music Tour to a sold-out crowd at the brand-new Akins Ford Arena on the University of Georgia campus. From start to finish, the night was packed with high energy, heartfelt moments, and performances that fans won’t soon forget.

Kicking things off was Channing Wilson, whose raw lyrics and gritty delivery drew the crowd in right away. Drake White followed with his signature blend of country, soul, and infectious stage presence. But it was Ella Langley, stepping into her first-ever direct support role, who turned heads. Her powerful vocals and undeniable confidence made it clear she’s on a fast track to headlining status. Her duet with Riley on “You Look Like You Love Me” was a fan favorite.

When Riley Green finally hit the stage, the sold-out arena erupted. He delivered a crowd-pleasing mix of hits like “There Was This Girl” and “Georgia Time,” along with new tracks from his upcoming album Don’t Mind If I Do, due this October. Riley’s down-to-earth style and heartfelt lyrics made the massive space feel intimate.

The night also delivered two unforgettable—and quickly going viral—moments. Mid-show, two men dancing and singing on the stairs to Green’s “Rather Be” were captured on video, their joy lighting up social media feeds nationwide (Whiskey Riff). And in a heartwarming finale, a young boy joined Riley on stage to sing “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” earning cheers from the crowd and melting hearts online. The boy’s request? For the arena lights to be turned off and all attendees to light up the venue with their cell phones and sing along. (All Country News)

It was also a big night for the Akins Ford Arena as Athens’ newest entertainment hub. With its top-tier production and seating for over 8,000, the venue proved it’s ready to host the biggest names in music. More than just a tour stop, Riley Green’s night in Athens was a celebration of everything country music does best—connecting people, telling real stories, and creating moments that live on far beyond the final encore.
